Refinishing Hardwood Flooring
Hardwood is the floor that lasts a lifetime. But just like your body, your hardwood floors may require care and upkeep from time to time to keep them working as good as new. At Harry Katz Carpet One in Mineola, NY, we offer hardwood floor refinishing services. Here are some tips on how to care for your hardwood floors and when to know if your floors need refinishing.
How do you know when to Refinish Hardwood Floors?
Daily: Sweep to remove built up dirt and dust which can cause scratching and damage the finish. If you spill, make sure to wipe it up immediately since moisture on hardwood can cause warping of the planks.
Weekly: Dry mop or mop with a cleaner that is approved by your manufacturer. You don’t want to use a cleaner that is not covered under your warranty!
Occasionally: If you think it is time to refinish your floors and regular cleaning won’t do anymore, test your floors with a drop of water. If the water forms a bead on top of your floor, your finish is still in tact. If the water soaks in after a few minutes on your floor, your finish is starting to lose effectiveness. If the water soaks into your floor, the finish is damaged and you are in need of refinishing hardwood floors.
